AWS re:Invent 2025 - How Adobe & Salesforce enable sustainability initiatives with AWS CCFT (AIM332) AWS re:Invent 2025 - Sustainability Initiatives with AWS CCFT
AWS Sustainability Overview
AWS has set ambitious sustainability goals, including:
Being net zero carbon by 2040 as part of the Climate Pledge
Achieving 100% renewable and carbon-free energy for its operations
Being water positive by 2030, replacing more water than it uses
Implementing circularity initiatives to recycle and reuse components
AWS operates a sustainable infrastructure at scale across 120 availability zones, 245 countries, and 38 geographic regions.
AWS is 4.1 times more energy efficient than on-premises data centers.
Sustainability is a shared responsibility between AWS and its customers through the Well-Architected Sustainability Pillar.
The Customer Carbon Footprint Tool (CCFT)
AWS launched the CCFT in 2022 to provide customers visibility into the carbon emissions associated with their AWS usage.
In response to customer feedback, AWS has continuously enhanced the CCFT:
Releasing verified methodology and third-party validation in 2025
Providing both market-based and location-based emissions data
Expanding to include scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions
The CCFT ingests data from across AWS to calculate and allocate emissions down to the customer account level.
Customers can access the CCFT through the AWS Billing Console and export the data for their needs.
Salesforce Sustainability Initiatives
Salesforce's sustainability goals include being net zero by 2040, reducing scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, and becoming nature positive.
Salesforce is rapidly transitioning to the public cloud on AWS to improve the efficiency and sustainability of its infrastructure.
Key focus areas include:
Right-sizing utilization and optimizing for cost and carbon
Selecting the most efficient AWS services and regions
Developing more efficient and sustainable software code
Tracking water usage and e-waste
Salesforce uses the CCFT data for footprinting, forecasting, trend analysis, and stakeholder reporting.
Adobe Sustainability Initiatives
Adobe's sustainability strategy is built on three pillars: product, operations, and advocacy.
Adobe has set targets to reduce scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% and scope 3 emissions by 52% by 2030.
Other key sustainability commitments include:
100% renewable electricity by 2025
90% global waste recycling
80% of buildings LEED certified
25% reduction in water consumption
Adobe leverages the CCFT data to enhance its own sustainability data and reporting, enabling more precise carbon accounting.
Collaboration and Next Steps
Sustainability is a shared responsibility, and collaboration between AWS, Salesforce, Adobe, and other customers is critical.
Key areas for continued collaboration and progress include:
Increasing data accessibility, granularity, and timeliness in the CCFT
Enabling product-level carbon footprinting and AI-specific emissions tracking
Developing more tools and APIs to drive actionability and optimization
AWS is committed to continuously enhancing the CCFT and supporting customers' sustainability initiatives through 2026 and beyond.
