The Objective

Landauer sought to migrate their existing database to a low-latency solution while exploring the possibilities of an open-source solution.

• Migrate all records to AWS OpenSearch with little to no downtime
• Keep production live and in sync throughout the transition
• Reduce latency for faster filtering and search experiences
• Eliminate licensing fees and reduce ops overhead with serverless

The Solution

Migration to OpenSearch: AntStack replaced Landauer’s proprietary RDBMS with AWS OpenSearch, eliminating licensing costs and improving query performance

Improved Latency: Achieved millisecond-level response times, enhancing report filtering and overall user experience

Minimal Downtime Data Migration: Used Logstash to migrate data from Couchbase, with real-time sync via a changeset table to ensure continuity

Controlled Switchover: Ran systems in parallel and executed a clean cut-off after full sync, no downtime or disruption

Scalable & Efficient: Moved to a managed, serverless setup, removing manual upkeep and enabling rapid, cost-effective scaling

The Impact

Landauer’s new system achieved millisecond latency, reduced expenses by eliminating licensing costs, and saved time and money in development and testing.

• Landauer reduced latency in its report-filtering system, resulting in a better user experience for its customers
• With migration, Landauer eliminated the need for proprietary RDBMS solutions and associated licensing fees, resulting in significant cost savings
